Kirsty Swadling

Kirsty Swadling was admitted as a barrister and solicitor in 1986 after graduating from Auckland BA/LlB. She practised as a solicitor for approximately 18 years – 11 years of those as a partner in a medium-sized Auckland firm. She then became a barrister sole in 2004 in central Auckland and has continued work as a barrister since that time.
Kirsty specialises in Family Law, particularly in relationship property (including trust property), cases involving children and elder law. She has experience in family protection and other estates disputes and trust disputes. Her work includes appointments by the Court as lawyer for the child in Parenting Applications, for the subject person in PPPR Act applications and as counsel to assist the Court. Kirsty also works as a mediator, especially in relationship property and parenting disputes and is also available for arbitrations. She is a trained collaborative lawyer and can assist clients who prefer to resolve their disputes using the Collaborative Law process. Kirsty works with her clients to make sure that they are fully involved in the decisions relating to their legal matters by ensuring full understanding and ownership of the legal issues and processes. Kirsty is a member of the Family Law Section of the New Zealand Law Society and served as chair of the executive committee for 3 years.
